PPSSPP is a free PlayStation Portable (PSP) emulator for the Android operating system.

PPSSPP is the first (and arguably the best) PSP emulator for Android devices. As one of the only free emulators for PSP, it does a surprisingly good job at emulation. The app supports official PSP ROMs as well as homebrew games. Of course, the legality on ROMs is somewhat unclear. Generally, it's piracy to download ROMs of games you do not own and play them on the emulator. You should always check local laws before proceeding with using any emulator.

The emulator does exactly what it promises to do: play back PSP games with minimal issues. Of course, it does not work with some games, but for the more popular releases it works well. Users can also customize the controls on their device. Of course, for older devices, the emulation may be a bit more laggy. However, this is simply due to hardware constraints and is not a sign of poor design of the emulator itself.

The emulator has a unique "Load Games" option. This essentially allows the user to peruse files on his or her local machine and upload them to the user's Android device. Other emulators require the user to download ROMs directly on their Android device which could pose a problem, depending on how metered of a connection the device is on.

PPSSPP is uniquely situated between an emulator for expert gamers and curious novice gamers alike. On one hand, the emulator is very easy to use. The configuration is easy to set up, and the controls and menus are intuitive. There is also a more advanced side to the app. Users can set very specific emulation parameters, some of which are barely decipherable to people who are not knowledgeable about the emulation industry.

Overall, PPSSPP is the best a gamer could ask for. Being a freeware PSP emulator is an achievement in itself. Its easy controls are a nice bonus. The very specific settings are great for customizing the emulator for specific Android devices. The app is very well thought-out in general, and it's highly recommended for gamers of all levels.

Play PSP ROMs and homebrew files on the PPSSPP PSP Emulator.

In terms of design and organization, PPSSPP is great for users with multiple files. It keeps a variety of different ROM file types organized and in plain view. The application doesn't need to be installed onto the device and it handles files efficiently. Three tabs on the main screen make navigation a breeze.

Beyond the ability to play PSP games, the application contains several options to customize the playing experience. Emulator parameters can be tweaked to perfection. PPSSPP saves the configuration for future playing sessions. It's a simple emulator filled with many advanced options for experienced gamers.
